Evil Dead comes to UK disc

EVIL DEAD is the highly anticipated reboot of Sam Raimi’s 1981 cult-hit horror film The Evil Dead, produced by the original team and featuring a fresh young cast, which comes to UK disc August 12th
Five friends gather at a remote country cabin to help one of them, Mia (Jane Levy: Suburgatory) kick her drug habit. Joining Mia is her brother David (Shiloh Fernandez: Red Riding Hood), his girlfriend Natalie (Elizabeth Blackmore: Legend of the Seeker) and their childhood friends Olivia (Jessica Lucas: Cloverfield) and Eric (Lou Taylor Pucci: Carriers).
Inside they are shocked to discover that the abandoned cabin has been broken into. Eric becomes fascinated with an ancient book he discovers there. In thrall to its mysterious contents, he reads aloud from it, never suspecting the terrifying consequences he is about to unleash.

“HAUNTED” – “Ghost Face” Appears For Real In Horror Film! :)

Steven M. Smith’s Greenway Entertainment got the shock of their lives when they reviewed the rushes for their latest feature film HAUNTED.
A “GHOST FACE” appears for real, scaring the life out of one of the paranormal investigators.
Steven M. Smith said, “We couldn’t believe it! There it was and it was real, a man’s face looking in through the window to the underground train, impossible, as the train was in a building on a six foot high stand 10 foot off the ground!”
Freddie Fuller (The investigator who witnessed the Ghost Face up close) said, “I was in there (underground train) for less then a minute on my own and then there it was…I just legged it and screamed like a girl, which I am not proud of…”

Side Effects - UK Blu-Ray/DVD review

"Side Effects" is out now on DVD and Blu-Ray and was asked to give the discs the once over.
The film stars Rooney Mara (Girl With the Dragon Tattoo) as Emily Taylor, a depressed housewife who's been put under the care of Psychiatrist Johnathon Banks (Jude Law - Contagion), following a failed suicide attempt.
Having tried various anti-depressants without success, he suggests a new trial drug that's just come out on the market, Ablixa. Unfortunately, when she stabs her husband to death in a drug induced sleepwalking state, he finds his otherwise unblemished career suddenly dragged through the mud.

As her actions were deemed to be a side effect of the drugs she was on, she's sent to a psychiatric hospital, rather than prison. But with his career in medicine suddenly in tatters, Dr Banks decides to do a little digging to find out what went wrong and begins to suspect that she and her previous psychologist Dr Siebert (played by Catherine Zeta Jones - Red 2) are involved in an elaborate scam.

The film is not really a horror, but a very well made psychological thriller. You're never really too sure whether Jude Law's character is actually onto something, or whether he's so desparate to clear his name, that he's clutching at conspiracy theories.
Overall, I quite enjoyed it. If you're into Hitchcock style thrillers, this one should appeal.
The screener I was sent was devoid of extras and there's no news on what additional features might be included on the disc (if any). But if you're not worried about supplemental material, then I'd definitely advise picking this one up.
"Side Effects" is out now on DVD and Blu-Ray from eOne entertainment.

From the makers of "The Zombie Diaries" comes a brand new British horror, "The Paranormal Diaries : Clophill", which will be making its debut at this years Frightfest in London, ahead of its DVD release.

Fifty years on, following numerous reports of strange apparitions ever since that ceremony, a film crew assembled to interview witnesses and set up camp within the church ruins. During the night, they hoped to capture some kind fo paranormal presence on camera.
Nothing however could have prepared them for the terrifying scenes they were about to witness or the harrowing events that followed.

Extras on the disc include...
Audio commentary with the writer and director.

Ronnie Sunshines is a camping store based in Heartfordshire. I buy stuff from them from time to time, so I'm used to receiving the occaisional promotional email from them. But I was somewhat surprised to see that they're now selling equipment in preparation for a possible zombie invasion...
Some of the items include paper zombie shooting targets, machetes, crossbows and lock knives, like the ones used on "The Walking Dead". Plus, if you can afford it, they also sell this rather nice "Zombie Killing Kit", made by 'Armex'. "Dressed to Kill" - UK Blu-Ray review.

Brian DePalma’s cult classic “Dressed to Kill” will be making its UK Blu-Ray debut this July courtesy of Arrow films, who were kind enough to provide me with a review copy to take a look at.
The film stars Angie Dickinson as a sexually frustrated housewife, Kate Miller, who makes up for her husbands shortcomings (so to speak) by picking up strangers in art galleries. But after leaving the apartment of her latest conquest, she is brutally murdered by a mysterious blonde haired woman.
Her psychiatrist, Dr Elliot (played by veteran actor Michael Caine), believes it to be a fellow patient of his, a transgendered man named Bobby, who he’d refused a sex change operation to.
But with the only witness to the attack being a high class call girl, Liz (Nancy Allen – Robocop, Carrie), the police suspect her instead. And with the killer now stalking her and the police not believing her, she finds herself struggling to clear her name before she becomes his next victim.
Also starring Dennis Franz (TVs “Hill Street Blues”) as Detective Marino and Keith Gordon (Carrie) as Kate’s son Peter, this is one of DePalmas best loved films, which was highly controversial on its release owing to its lurid mix of sex and violence.
The film benefits from a good cast, including British veteran Michael Cane, who puts in a commendable performance as always and Angie Dickinson, who has a couple of interesting nude scenes. Which reminds me, she must have been almost 50 when she filmed this, but still looked incredibly fit for her age.
This Blu-Ray release is of the fully uncut, unrated version of the film and as with all arrow releases, comes packed with a whole host of special features.
First off, there’s a series of interview features.
-Dressed in White (with Angie Dickinson)
-Dressed in Purple (with Nancy Allen)
-Lessons in Film making (with Keith Gordon)
In which the cast discuss their roles in the film.
Then there’s a selection of making of features…
-Symphony of Fear, in which producer George Litto discusses his work with Brian DePalma and
-Making of a Thriller, which is a 45 minute making of documentary, featuring interviews with Brian DePalma, George Litto and stars Angie Dickinson, Nancy Allen, Keith Gordon, Dennis Franz, and…
-Slashing Dressed to Kill, in which the director and cast discuss the many scenes that had to be cut to avoid an X rating in the US.
Also included is…
-Unrated and R rated comparison feature, which is a side by side comparison of the cut and uncut scenes along with the recut footage used in the US TV version.
-Theatrical trailer, and…
-Stills gallery, comprised of many rare behind the scenes photos.
In addition, the case also contains a special collectors booklet, featuring linear notes on the film by critic and author Maitland McDonagh and the sleeve comes with reversible artwork.
The film is released on Blu-Ray on Monday the 29th of July from Arrow films.

The UK Horror Channel is giving Italian horror maestro Lucio Fulci a much deserved season this August, comprising of four of his most memorable films. Genre classics that were either banned or heavily censored in the UK during the late seventies, early eighties.

Fulci, the forerunner of Italian splatter, once said that violence IS Italian art, and who would disagree with him when you look at the line-up, which comprises such ground-breaking master-pieces as the 1979 iconic "Zombie Flesh Eaters" (Sat Aug 3, 22:55) and the 1981 zombie shocker "House by the Cemetery" (Sat Aug 24, 22:55). Both are network premieres.

The other two titles are Channel favourites "City of the Living Dead" (Sat Aug 10, 22:55) and "The Beyond" (Sat Aug 17, 22:55).

The season will be exclusively hosted and introduced by Fulci’s music maestro Fabio Frizzi and Spencer Hickman from Death Waltz Records.

Facility 31 promises underground chills....

Producer Mark Kenna of Bad Blood films recently got in touch to tell us about his new film "Facility 31" which is currently in production.
The story revolves around a group of military prisoners who are tasked with cleaning a remote, dilapidated military bunker. One of the prisoners is a dishonored medical doctor named Rosie, she thinks her worst nightmares have come true when the officer in charge is the same person who court martialled her.
But when a power surge hits the facility, a lockdown traps them inside. With this and the disappearance of another prisoner, comes the sinking realisation that there is something sinister in the depths of the facility and all is not what it seems… -
The script has been written by director David Hawk, a lifelong fan of the horror genre, who actually secured the filming location for the story, which is at a genuine disused military bunker. "Facility 31" is one of 5 films that Bad Blood films currently have in production, more news on this and the other titles when it becomes available.

The Worlds End - Thoughts and Musings....

"The World's End", the new horror comedy from the people who gave us "Shaun of the Dead" is out at UK cinemas TODAY (Friday) and I managed to catch a special Midnight screening on Thursday night.
The film revolves around a 30 something delinquent, Gary King (Simon Pegg), who never really moved on with his life since leaving school. He returns to his home town with some of his former school friends to do a legendary pub crawl, called "The Golden Mile", which involves drinking a round in each of the towns 12 pubs in one evening, something they tried, but failed, to do once before during their misspent youth.
But it isn't too long before they realise their old home town isn't quite what it seems and fairly soon, the group find themselves running for their lives. But despite all this, Gary is still determined to finish the Golden Mile pub crawl and reach the Worlds End pub, even if it kills them (which it probably will).
Don't want to give too much of the plot away, but think "Shaun of the Dead" crossed with "Invasion of the Body Snatchers". Overall I really enjoyed this one and found it to be great fun. There's a few gags they've carried over from their previous films and a few familiar faces making an appearance, so if you liked "Shaun.." or "Hot Fuzz", you should love this.
Anyway, here's the trailer...

These items will be available exclusively on for four days only. Pre-orders begin on Thursday, July 11th at 10 am EST and will end on Monday, July 15th promptly at 10 am EST. Dressed to Kill on UK Blu-Ray

Arrow Video is pleased to announce the UK Blu-ray debut of Brian De Palma’s erotic crime thriller DRESSED TO KILL on Monday 29th July.
One of De Palma’s best loved films, DRESSED TO KILL has been lovingly re-mastered by MGM studios, and will finally be available uncut and on blu-ray for the very first time in the UK. Arrow’s deluxe edition of the film will come loaded
Starring legendary British actor Michael Caine (The Italian Job, Harry Brown) alongside Nancy Allen (Carrie, Robocop) and Angie Dickenson (Point Blank, The Killers), DRESSED TO KILL begins as sexually frustrated housewife Kate Miller (Dickenson) consults her psychiatrist about her husband’s lacklustre performance in the bedroom.
Following the session with Dr Elliot (Caine), Kate silently seduces a stranger in a New York Art gallery, before going back to his place. Upon leaving the man’s apartment, Kate is brutally murdered in the elevator; the only witness is high-end prostitute Liz Blake (Allen), who is in-turn accused of the murder.

One of De Palma's darkest and most controversial suspense thrillers, DRESSED TO KILL was as acclaimed for its stylish set-pieces and lush Pino Donaggio score as it was condemned for its sexual explicitness and extreme violence.

Thousands Apply to be Part of Essex Zombie Film

Death Walks is a new zero budget movie set in a Romford Shopping Centre. The concept, a zombie invasion movie that is so much the rage at the moment. However director Spencer Hawken vows to put a spin on things.
The change in concept has clearly captivated the imaginations of not just Essex, but counties all across the UK. In a county that has at least four zombie movies in various stages of development, Death Walks secret concept has horror fans speculating the outcome.
"I've had people contact me telling me they know the mystery behind Death Walks, but every single one of them has been wrong, I'm fairly sure horror fans will blow a gasket when they see what I have done".
It's not just the movie that is different. Not wanting to go down the fundraising route, the film-maker has gone out to the public creating a community project, via what the director calls resource funding. The idea is that nobody comes up with any cash, people are instead donating resources in the form of time or products in exchange for a little movie action.
The Mercury Mall in Romford have donated their shopping centre, security firm AEJ have given labour to manage the films security, Gloucester based Vantage Video, and Essex based LoveOne Productions are going to shoot the film. Aylesbury special effects and make up company Morgotha are going to provide the blood and guts. While established and new actors are giving their acting talent in the 23 principle roles and over 200 people mainly from the community of Romford including a 93 year old man and a pregnant woman, have already signed up to star as zombies in the film. Film student Alexander McNeil has offered his services as the movies editor. And dozens of individuals like Michelle Horne, Mo Mousavi, and Hardy Saleh have opted to jump aboard to help out behind the camera.
Death Walk's begins films in July, but it's here that the final unusual aspect comes. The movie will be shot over the course of just 14 hours, thanks to multiple film crews. The makers have a plan to complete the editing with enough time to submit the movie onto the festival circuit in 2014.
