“Treehouse” is the new film from Michael Bartlett, who previously gave us “The Zombie Diaries”. Now I wasn’t a particular fan of that film, so was somewhat apprehensive when I was approached to review this. But, I was pleased to say though, that as the film got going it won me over and was quite impressed.
The film stars J Michael Trautmen and Clint James as brothers Killian and Crawford. Killian is something of a recluse and spends most of his time hiding behind his protective older brother.
Following a news report that a young brother and sister from their school have gone missing under very mysterious circumstances, the sheriff places the entire town under curfew. Notwithstanding, the 2 brothers decide to sneak out of the house after dark and go let off some fireworks in the woods.
Discovering a treehouse, they decide to look inside and find the missing girl from the news reports, Elizabeth (Dana Melanie) who informs them that her family have been killed by a strange group of people.
Unfortunately, when they try and go for help, they encounter the mysterious folk Elizabeths spoke of. Crawford makes a break for it, but doesn’t return. Unsure of who, or what, they are up against, Killian and Elizabeth are forced into a deadly cat and mouse game as they try to elude whoever it is stalking them.
Kind of a cross between Blair Witch (without the camcorder) and Assault on Precinct 13. The movie is more of a suspense thriller, then perhaps an action movie or slasher pic. It does take a bit of time to get going though and was a bit slow in places, but the director makes a good job of stoking up the tension, as you’re never quite sure whats going on.
I perhaps was a little unsure about the ending (which I won’t spoil for you), but overall I quite enjoyed this and would recommend it.
The film is released to UK DVD October 20th, in time for Halloween.
No extras are included on the disc.
