"Curtain" - A Review

A horror movie about disappearing shower curtains isn’t exactly a film you get asked to review everyday. But, never-the-less, that’s exactly what director Jaron Henrie-McCrea's off-beat horror-comedy "Curtain" is about, which is released to UK VOD outlets this month on the Frightfest Presents label.

Charity worker Danni (Danni Smith) moves into a new apartment in New York City, only to find that her shower curtains in the bathroom keep mysteriously disappearing. Suspecting the maintenance man might be sneaking in and stealing them (though why he would do that, god only knows) she installs a hidden camera, only to discover that the curtains appear to be getting sucked into a strange portal in the middle of her bathroom wall.

One of her co-workers, Tim (Tim Lueke), becomes intrigued and hatches a plan to find out where the curtains are going. But when they turn up in a forest in New Jersey, that only adds to the intrigue. Even more so, when Danni subsequently gets a rather ominous visit from a group of demonic characters asking her not to hang any more shower curtains in her bathroom.

Trying to get to the bottom of all these bizarre goings on proves no easy task, but one things for sure. By the time she’s finished, she’s going to wish she’d just stuck to taking baths instead.

I was very pleasantly surprised by this oddball comedy, particularly as this is only the director’s second feature film and marks the feature film debut of the 2 lead actors. Yet the film looks like it had a lot more money than it probably did and everyone in this could actually act, which is always a plus in these low budget films and proves to be both amusing and strangely compelling.

The film is out on VOD in the UK March 17th
