The Ice Cream Truck arrives on US disc

Writer-director Megan Freels Johnston’s suburban nightmare The Ice Cream Truck is out now on US DVD from Uncork’d Entertainment.

Available from Amazon, the DVD and BD comes complete with outtakes and behind the scenes featurette 'Making Murder'.

The provocative psychological thriller stars Deanna Russo (Being Human, Gossip Girl) as Mary, who moves back to her suburban hometown after her husband gets relocated for work.  As her family ties up loose ends back home, she moves into their new house alone. And although the move makes Mary nostalgic for her youth, there’s something very sinister about that Ice Cream Truck that patrols her suburb.

The Ice Cream Truck also stars Dana Gaier (Despicable Me 3), John Redlinger (Thirst, Banshee), Emil Johnsen (Isolerad), Hilary Barraford (Go For Sisters), Jeff Daniel Phillips (31),  and Lisa Ann Walter (War of the Worlds).

Storytelling is very much in Freels Johnston’s DNA.  The granddaughter of legendary crime writer Elmore Leonard, The Ice Cream Truck screenplay was a semi-finalist in the Circus Road Screenplay competition.

As a producer developing material for over a decade, Freels Johnston worked on adaptations of her grandfather's work and produced Sparks, the directorial debut of Joseph Gordon-Levitt.  After completing a project for the USA Network, she decided to follow her passion and write and direct her own material. Her first film, 2014’s micro budget thriller Rebound, developed a cult following on VOD, was called, “Almost David Lynchian in its strangeness” by Film Threat and Rue Morgue said, the film "(was) worth watching to the end for the unnervingly realistic twist ending."

The Ice Cream Truck is out now on US BD and DVD at Amazon.

Psycho shower scene doc 78/52 slashes its way to DVD on Dec 11

DOGWOOF is excited to announce that the bold, stylish and incisive new documentary 78/52 – the film which pulls back the curtain on one of cinema’s greatest ever scenes – slashes its way onto DVD on 11th December.

In 78 setups and 52 cuts, the deliriously choreographed two-minute shower sequence in Psycho ripped apart cinema’s definition of horror. With a shocking combination of exploitation and high art, Alfred Hitchcock upended his own acclaimed narrative structure by violently killing off a heroine a third of the way through his film, without explanation, justification, or higher purpose. Psycho played out like a horrific prank, forcing audiences to recognize that even the most banal domestic spaces were now fair game for unspeakable mayhem.

With black-and-white film-geek reverence, director Alexandre O. Philippe breaks down this most notorious and essential scene shot for shot, enlisting the help of film buffs and filmmakers alike - including Guillermo del Toro, Bret Easton Ellis, Karyn Kusama, Eli Roth and Peter Bogdanovich. 78/52 examines Janet Leigh’s terrified facial expressions and the blink-and-you-miss-it camera work, not just within the context of the film but also with an eye toward America’s changing social mores - revealing how one bloody, chaotic on-screen death killed off chaste cinema and eerily predicted a decade of unprecedented violence and upheaval.

Argento's CAT OF NINE TAILS - fully restored on BD/DVD from Arrow.

Dario Argento’s devilishly good 1971 horror mystery The Cat O’ Nine Tails starring James Franciscus (City On Fire, Beneath the Planet of the Apes) and Karl Malden (On The Waterfront, TVs Streets of San Francisco), is a brilliantly byzantine thriller that cemented Argento’s reputation as a master genre director.

Following the success of his debut feature, The Bird with the Crystal Plumage, distributor Titanus tasked writer/director Dario Argento with delivering a follow-up in short order. The resulting film, granted a greatly enhanced budget and heralded in its US marketing campaign as “nine times more suspenseful” than its predecessor, was The Cat O’ Nine Tails.

This second entry in the so-called “Animal Trilogy” found Argento further refining his distinctive style and cementing his reputation as the master of the giallo thriller. Co-starring Catherine Spaak (Il Sorpasso) and Rada Rassimov (Baron Blood), and featuring another nerve-jangling score by the great Ennio Morricone (The Bird with the Crystal Plumage, The Good, The Bad and the Ugly), The Cat O’ Nine Tails remains one of Argento’s most suspenseful and underrated films.

This limited edition Blu-ray gets a superb limited edition 4K restoration, and is packed with extras, and features a new audio commentary, new cover artwork and comes with a poster, lobby cards and a lavishly illustrated collector’s booklet featuring essential writing on the film.

LIMITED EDITION CONTENTS:Brand new 4K restoration of the film from the original camera negative

-High Definition Blu-ray (1080p) and Standard Definition DVD presentations
-Original mono Italian and English soundtracks (lossless on the Blu-ray Disc)
-Newly translated English subtitles for the Italian soundtrack
-Optional English subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing for the English soundtrack
-New audio commentary by critics Alan Jones and Kim Newman
-New interviews with co-writer/director Dario Argento, co-writer Dardano Sacchetti, actress Cinzia De Carolis and production manager Angelo Iacono
-Script pages for the lost original ending, translated into English for the first time
-Original Italian and international theatrical trailers
-Reversible sleeve featuring original and newly commissioned artwork by Candice Tripp
-Double-sided fold-out poster
-4 lobby card reproductions
-Limited edition booklet illustrated by Matt Griffin, featuring an essay on the film by Dario Argento, and new writing by Barry Forshaw, Troy Howarth and Howard Hughes

Exorcism documentary DELIVER US (Liberami) - out now on UK DVD!

Federica Di Giacomo's award winning documentary DELIVER US (Liberami) (Venice Film Festival, 2016, Horizons Award, Best Film Winner. Nominated, Best Documentary at the 30th European Film Awards 2017) is out now on UK DVD.

Exorcism is still a fact of contemporary life. Every year, more and more people claim that their illnesses are caused by demonic possession. Father Cataldo is a veteran, one of the most sought-after exorcists in Sicily. Every Tuesday, many believers follow his mass of liberation, searching for a cure for some adversity for which there does not seem to be a label or a remedy.

The Catholic Church reacts to this crisis by nominating priests as exorcists in increasing numbers and by organizing training courses for them. In order to respond to the rising number of requests for deliverance from evil, all French dioceses have installed at least one exorcist. In Spain, the archdiocese of Madrid is desperately trying to fill seven additional positions.

In Rome and Milan alone, the number of exorcists has grown from six to 12, and the Church has set up an emergency call center. In the US, the number of exorcists has increased tenfold over the last few years.

DELIVER US (Liberami) is available now on UK DVD from Network.
